August Card making class

I had the opportunity to teach a card making class in August.  It was a lot of fun prepping for the class and then watching others learn new techniques.  We all shared ideas and some participants made changes to my designs that were creative and gave the cards a different look.  I think I may do this again.  It was awesome.

Daisy Birthday Card - A2 with top fold; 4 1/4 x 11 with score at 5 1/2

This is the card I redesigned from my sister's birthday card in March (see earlier post).  I used Martha Stewart Daisies in two different styles.  I used Stampin' Up's Elegant Butterfly and Itty Bitty Butterfly punches for the card and envelope.  The sentiment is Stampin' Up (SU) Perfect Punches Happy Birthday and then punched it out with SU large oval punch.

 

The bright yellow paper is embossed on the Big Shot with SU Petals a Plenty embossing folder.

 

On the top half of the card I used a sponge dauber and inked it up

with SU Daffodil Delight inkpad and randomly made large polka dots.

 

This shows both styles of the cards with the envelopes.

 

This is the second style of the card and I did use these daisies for most of the cards.

I used yellow rick rack ribbon for texture

and to separate the yellow & white parts of the card.

 

This is the envelope I designed for the card. 

It isn't shown and I used a yellow with white polka dots as the liner.

 

This card makes me happy.  I love the yellow and it can easily

be changed up by changing the color, the flower, the sentiment,

and even changing  the butterfly.

 

 

 

Gathering Leaves With Gratitude card - A2 card; top fold 5 1/2 x 8 1/2

with score at 4 1/4

 

 

This is the card most of the participants made changes to the design.  They really liked the brown wood grain embossed paper and wanted more of it to show.  The trimmed the leaf paper and changed how the leaves were laid out.  They were very creative and each did the design differently.  I said to them I loved that I could learn from them and watch their creativity.

 

 

I used a linen textured paper for the main card, then SU Early Espresso paper that

was embossed on the Big Shot with SU Wood Grain embossing folder; the SEI leaf paper

from their Yesteryear collection (I love this paper);  I used a variety of papers to cut out

the leaves on Cricut using the Stretch Your Imagination and Storybook cartridges;

the sentiment stamp is from Anna Griffin stamped in SU Early Espresso ink on

the linen paper and punched out with SU oval punch; it is set on SU Early Espresso

paper and punched out with SU scallop oval punch.

 

These are the two different styles I gave the participants for

the envelope.  The sentiment is placed in different places

and so are the leaves.  My favorite is the left one.

Again, sorry I different take a photo of the liner;

it is a green background with brown leaves and vines scattered throughout.

 

This is a close-up of the card so you can see the leaf layout.

I did pop up a few of the leaves.  I only did the bottom leaf on the right.

I did 3 of the leaves on the left, the large gold maple leaf is flat;

the rest are popped up.  The two small ones by the sentiment are flat.

 

 

Winter Snowflake Card - A2 card with side fold; 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 score at 4 1/4

 

This can be a winter card or a Christmas card by changing the sentiment on the card.  I designed a Christmas card and it can be changed up by using different cardstock, colors, and embellishments.  I love to be inspired by someone else's card or something I see in nature or photos and redesign it into my own style.  I hope you can do that with some of my cards.

 

 

I used Core'dinations Whitewash Collection Cellar Door for the main card.

This is difficult to find and I found it at Scrapbooking R'us Supplies.  I distressed the edges

around all the edges.  If you look close you will see texture at the top of the card.

That is white vellum paper embossed on the Big Shot with

SU Snowburst embossing folder.  That is laid down first.  Then the bottom half

is Bo Bunny Elf Magic Snowflake paper, that goes on next.

The lay down the silver ribbon with liquid glue. 

The snowflakes are cut out on Cricut using Teresa Collins December 25th cartridge. 

The small snowflake is laid down flat.  The medium snowflake is

popped up in the middle only.  The large snowflake is popped up in the

middle and on each of the round points.  There is a blue rhinestone in the

center of each snowflake and crystal rhinestones on the medium and large snowflakes.

The sentiment is stamped on the Core'dinations cardstock with SU Island Indigo inkpad. 

The corners are rounded and then the whole piece is edged with SU Island Indigo ink.

The sentiment is popped up with SU Dimensional

 

It is hard to see and there are silver snowflakes stamped on the

envelope on the left side above the sentiment and to the

bottom right and up slightly on the right side.  The sentiment

is stamped in SU Island Indigo ink.  The liner used was  a

blue with white snowflakes paper.

 

This view gives you a better perspective on how to lay out

the rhinestones on the snowflakes.  This card will be one of the designs

I use for the cards I send out at the holidays. 

 

 

Polka Dot 'Love You" Card - 5.5 x 5.5 square card - top or side fold;

5 1/2 x 11, score at 5 1/2

 

I love polka dots, I love black & white cards with a pop of color and that is why I designed this card.  I used red as the pop color on this card and I also love to use bright blue, yellow, or neon colors with black and white cards.  Changing the color can change the theme of the card.  In my class I was doing a seasonal theme so made a valentine card.

 

 

 

I used SU Whisper White paper for the main card.  Then you layer

the black cardstock, then SU Cherry Cobbler cardstock.  Then lay down the two

polka dot corners making sure you leave a red edge

around and through the center.



 

Next punch out the hearts with miscellaneous red patterned paper;

decide where you want to place them.  Punch out a small square of

black paper to put on the white with black polka dots paper

on the top right corner.  See photo below.

Place the flower next in the center of the card.

I used Spare Parts Polka Dot large flower, small plain white

flower, and a small black or polka dot flower.  (you can get these at

Hobby Lobby and they have different colors)  I used glue dots to

put these together. 

 

Using SU Cherry Cobbler paper and SU modern label punch, I created the

bottom of the sentiment.  The 'love you' was made using SU Itty Bitty Banners

Love You stamp with SU Cherry Cobbler ink and cutting it out using

the Big Shot and SU Itty Bitty Banner Dies.

This is the envelope I used for this card.  I stamped in black ink

the 3 polka dot flowers with SU petite petals stamps; then punched

2 hearts to sit in between the flowers.  The sentiment was stamped at the

bottom center of the envelope.  The liner for this card was the black with

white polka dot paper.

 

 

Bookmark Bonus - 7 1/2 x 2

 

 

I made 7 different bookmark designs.  Participants in the class were given the option to make whatever 3 bookmarks they wanted to make or to create their own.  All bookmarks were made with SU whisper white paper and the top was punched with SU Scallop Tag Topper.  I used 2 pieces of the white cardstock, glued them together to make a sturdy bookmark and then punched the top.  I will just post photos of the bookmarks with not directions.  These are to give you ideas and spark your creative juices.  These make nice gifts for readers or can be shortened and used as tags on cards or on scrapbook pages.  Have fun!
